Our Story

We believe that people have tremendous potential and can achieve great things, given the opportunity. Opportunities can come in various forms – in vibrant networks of like-minded entrepreneurs and civic leaders, in peer and adult mentorships, in safe places to save money, in a sound education that leads to a job. Since our founding in 1999, we have been supporting people around the world to take advantage of these opportunities and advance their social and economic well-being.

Making Cents is a results-driven organization founded on the principles of social entrepreneurship. Over the years, we have expanded our service offerings and our geographic reach and have become a trusted partner to public- and private-sector clients who benefit from our expertise and broad industry exposure.

Our work has taken us to more than 60 countries on five continents to support high-impact programs and promote learning in positive youth development, agriculture and food security, nutrition, entrepreneurship and enterprise development, financial inclusion, and workforce development. Through tailored trainings and technical assistance, we equip partner organizations with critical skills and knowledge to help them support the people they serve—from smallholder farmers who feed the planet to young leaders and entrepreneurs who shape our communities.

We have also created dynamic and collaborative learning spaces where industry stakeholders can exchange knowledge and best practices on how to improve opportunities for young people globally. Our demand-driven Youth Economic Opportunities Network (YEO Network) has served more than 35,000 members – donors, private-sector companies, implementers, academics, and researchers – since 2007.  Members use the YEO Network and its flagship activity, the annual Global Youth Economic Opportunities Summit, to access concrete and transferable learning and inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of high-impact youth economic opportunity programs, policies, and partnerships. The Summit also convenes private-sector leaders who are committed to using a “shared value” approach to address youth unemployment globally. We invite you to join our YEO Network and benefit from these resources.

We are looking to work with clients and partners who seek real and lasting change in the lives of the people they serve. If this sounds like you, please be in touch. We appreciate the chance to apply our experience and keen interest in innovation to co-create with you and help people live productive, healthy lives.
